DSLR vs Mirrorless camera for photography

Similar to the evergreen battle of Nikon vs Canon, there are a few other hot as pepper discussions when it comes to modern digital photography. One such discussion is the DSLR vs mirrorless camera talks. Questions that can commonly be seen on forums no matter what day or time it is: 
Is mirrorless better than a DSLR camera?
Is DSLR better than a mirrorless camera? 
Is mirrorless better for beginners or professionals? 
Is DSLR better than mirrorless for beginners?
Technological discussions defining the "best" or "better" are always tricky to handle as camera manufacturing companies come up with new features every single year. What is best this year for a given feature might not be best by next year, technology evolves so fast. But who doesn't want the best bang for every dollar they spend? In this post, I will include both sides of the coin for each camera type. From a construction perspective, DSLR cameras have a mirror which reflects the light coming from the lens into the viewfinder pentaprism. Mirrorless cameras do not have this mirror. From an output image perspective, there is nothing that distinguishes a mirrorless from a DSLR camera. Image coming from a DSLR will not have additional bells and whistles attached to it. Without more digressing, let's see a few advantages offered by mirrorless cameras: 

-Lightweight. That's why travel enthusiasts and easy packing folks love mirrorless cameras. 
-Small sized.
-EVF with focus peaking feature. (Electronic viewfinder, which means you get what you see on the screen)
-In-camera body stabilization (IBIS). Most of the mirrorless cameras have it if not all.

Now, mirrorless cameras aren't perfect in every aspect just like DSLR cameras which have their own problems. Few disadvantages of mirrorless cameras include:

-Poor battery back up. This is an area that has seen a drastic level of improvement recently.
-Struggling AF for fast moving objects. 
-Limited lens selection. The used lens market for mirrorless cameras is not that wide either but it does give you the option to adopt just any manual focus lens.

Moving on, let's focus on the DSLR cameras now.  Advantages of DSLR:
-Versatile flash compatibility. 
-Better lens choices with a wider used stuff market. 
-More off brand stuff easily available. Example: Sigma, Tamron, Yongnuo, Tokina, etc. 
-Longer battery life.

Disadvantages of DSLR:
-Heavy. With a lens mounted, they feel like a heavy brick in hand. 
-Big size. I have a friend with small hands and he really struggles with handling 5d Mark III body without a battery grip.

Control ergonomics should form a major part of camera selection, not just a mirror. Some people find Sony's controls way harder to handle, so they stick with another brand. Both types of camera bodies have their place in today's market, and it's hard to look down on one over the other. Don't waste time arguing when it comes to mirrorless vs DSLR talks, instead go out and take more pictures. Leave the gearhead talks and focus on improving your photography style. If you feel like switching between a DSLR and mirrorless, go with the one that fulfills your reason for upgrade and budget. There is no right or wrong when it comes to DSLR vs mirrorless , only people and their preferences. :)
